Wavy Bricks
Wavy facing bricks were used on the refurbishment at the Young Vic Theatre in London.
The project has won a number of RIBA awards since its completion including the RIBA award,
RIBA National Award and RIBA London Building of the Year 2007.
It can also add being one of the 6 nominees for UK`s premier architectural award to its list of honours. The RIBA Stirling Prize is given to the Royal Institute of British Architects Building of the year. It is run in association with The Architects Journal and is presented to the architect of the building which has been the most significant for the evolution of architecture in the past year.
The project which was designed by Haworth Tompkins Architects included areas where the architects had a novel idea to produce an unusual but attractive toothed effect in the main front external and part internal walls of the building.
Special shaped bricks from Belgium were used in conjunction with a thin bed brick adhesive to achieve an intense ripple effect to the masonry areas.
